Simplicity: Power Within

"That's been one of my mantras - focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains." Steve Jobs
Simplicity is one of the most underrated qualities. It has the power to influence our collective future for better. The life histories of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa, bear testimony to this irrefutable fact. There is a general set of beliefs, which connects a group as diverse as Mahatma Gandhi and Steve Jobs. The principles of simple living can change our lives for better. We all have problems in our lives. This is a universal truth of humankind transcends across race, gender, socioeconomic background and cultural groups. Some of these problems appear to be insurmountable at the onset. The principle of parsimony states that the simplest solution is often right. This single thought has the ability to raise our inner consciousness. With a heightened awareness, an individual is able to resolve complex issues. The most efficient solution to a problem is to accept it. The mere acceptance of the problem, can lead us to a solution, which was always there. Our tendency to overanalyze things limits our perception. As a consequence, we fail to recognize the essential truth. Successful people understand these universal principles. Their understanding of these principles empowers them to manifest their destiny.
Principle 1 - Power of You
There has never been another you, and there will never be another you. You are truly unique. Most of us spend our entire lifetime, trying to be somebody, or being someplace else. Most of our self- help literature, not all, peddles the idea, that to be truly successful, you have to conform to a system, method or process. Nothing can be further from the truth, true self help mentors, teach you to celebrate your uniqueness. The tendency of our societal systems, be it education, professions or sports, is to categorize individuals into zones. This propensity goes against the primary ethos of humanity. As an individual, it's your prime responsibility to discover your true self, and find your true purpose. What would have happened if Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had graduated magna cum laude and joined a big corporation? The world would have missed their unique brilliance. Make an informed decision right now; you will be yourself, no matter what the circumstances are.
Principle 2 - Power of Now
Most of our existence on this beautiful blue planet is spent - either brooding over the past, or agonizing about the future. Meanwhile, life passes by, one morning we wake up all wrinkled with white hair, a tooth or two missing, only to realize- we were either living in the past or future. What could have been an alternate reality; we could have paid attention to our kid's stories, rather spending long hours networking, to get ahead in the rat race? We all seem to forget, that between past and future, lies the present. Grab these presents (gifts) with both hands, make the most of it, so that when you wake up all wrinkled, you have that toothless grin while you nod to yourself thinking " I played my part well, I lived my life well".
Principle 3 - Power of thought
Our thoughts shape our reality. Your mind is an amazing goal seeking machine. The key differentiator between athletes, at the highest level is their ability to visualize. At the end of the day, it's not the strongest or fastest, who wins; the ultimate prize goes to one, who thinks he can. All great endeavors begin with a thought. Man's ability to think has placed his destiny in his own hands. The surest way to accomplish something is to formalize a goal and believe in your goal as if it were real. Destiny chose you to fulfill your purpose.
Principle 4 - Power of gratitude
The 'gratitude mindset' is the surest way, to achieve lasting happiness in life. We often gravitate towards a sense of lack, we forget to count the innumerous blessings bestowed on us. This lack predates multiple problems that beset our lives. We tend to lack peace, fulfillment and abundance. In a way, while creating our reality we are attempting to escape the consequences. What a dumb way to lead a life? The alternative is to be consciously grateful of all good things; this will breed abundance in your life.
