Achieving the Impossible

Achieving any worthwhile goal in life isn't always easy, but, neither is it impossible. To develop and nurture your ability to achieve what you most desire, you may need to change your mental attitude. To achieve any new goal requires you take action to produce new things or create new ideas.
To achieve also means to complete any goal successfully. Once you become aware of your thoughts and the course of action you need to take to make them real is the beginning. Whenever you encounter negative thoughts about your ideas, you force your mind to defeat your wish to succeed.
You have a natural gift to succeed. Always think of yourself as being powerful. Think as many thoughts and plans as needed until you see yourself succeeding in whatever you attempt. If you fail the first time, stay with it until you reach success.
Hold all positive wishes and thoughts in your mind until they become a part of your nature. Do that with any worthwhile idea, even those you've had since childhood. In time, your mind begins to accept the positive thoughts as truth.
A great self-confidence booster is realizing that you are strong. Stand up to any difficulty in life that prevents you from achieving. Overcoming the most difficult challenges also boosts your confidence. Especially when you remember you are not alone. There's a higher source of spiritual power ready and waiting for you to use.
This built-in spiritual strength stays with you throughout your life. To further boost your creative ability to achieve at higher levels, develop a strong positive belief in yourself. This allows you to tap into your power to create ideas, and forces you to achieve your goals.
You are what you think you are. You become what you think, practice, and do. When you think something is impossible, it becomes impossible. If you wish to be successful - always be aware of your thoughts and the possibility that something good can and will happen. Then put action, no matter how small, behind your thoughts, until your success materializes.
Controlling your thought process from a negative to a positive one can work miracles. Negative thoughts have the power to hurt, to express hate, or to harm yourself and others. And the reverse to that is, positive thoughts have the power to heal, to make you feel happy and calm, and lets you love yourself and others.
Here are five quick positive thoughts to remember.
1. Believe in yourself. Then act on your belief. You will achieve it. Positive thinkers are not easily defeated; are not negative in their treatment of self and others. They often see the bright side of life.
2. Mentally change your negative thoughts into positive thoughts and ideas. Find ways to create the most effective solution. Get help when and wherever needed.
3. Set goals that are workable. Make a list of things you love to do, are good at, and are passionate about. Believe. Then act on your belief. You will achieve it.
4. Trust your ability to make decisions, then follow through with belief until your goal is successfully achieved. Practice self-discipline and determination. Both skills make the impossible a reality.
5. Most important, though, after making a decision, take action. Get rid of any lazy behaviors you may have. With action, you get a great feeling that increases your confidence and determination.
With optimism and clear thinking, your natural creative power takes over, inspires courage, and gives you a strong emotional response to act. As long as you are aware of your thoughts and the direction you wish to go, proceed with confidence. Persistence and confidence defeats impossibility thinking, and leads to success in any endeavor you try to achieve.

If you can find joy and happiness when you see the success of another then your resistance disappears and your own success will soar. The fastest way to get an improved financial condition is to look for pleasing things that you already have. For in focusing on that which is already working in your life, more success will come and it will come quickly.
Financial abundance does not occur in one's life through hard work or good luck or favouritism. Financial abundance is simply the universe's response to consistent thoughts and feelings of abundance. When you are able to accomplish the feeling of abundance within yourself before the evidence has shown itself to you, the evidence must come and it will continue to come as long as you maintain the feeling of abundance. I know this because I have created financial abundance in this way in my own life.
Any time you are feeling good no matter the reason you are a vibrational match to the feeling of abundance. In your absence of resistance everything that you have ever asked for is making its way to you through the law of attraction.
With each passing day your vibrational point of attraction will continue to improve until there will be an obvious tipping point. For a while the only evidence of your financial progress will be your improved emotional state of being. And if you let that be enough, not focusing on where your finances are at the moment, financial improvement will come.

Recently a friend complained to me that everywhere she looked there was "yet another article on overcoming fear" and it seemed to her that maybe we'd all be better off if we just stopped talking about fear so much. I have to admit she really got me thinking.
Fears of all kind are real and the single greatest obstacle to living life to the fullest, so I don't believe ignoring it is the answer. On the other hand, what if we challenged ourselves to look at it from a different perspective? What if instead of giving fear the power, we choose to focus on cultivating greater courage. After all, being courageous does not mean acting without fear... it means doing what you need to do despite the fear.

Understanding Courage
Courage is the strength, power or determination to confront a difficult or frightening situation. Courageous people still feel fear; they just don't let it paralyze them.
The truth is that in day-to-day life, courage doesn't receive much attention. If we think of it at all it is usually in connection with the actions of soldiers or some heroic effort to save a life, by a fireman perhaps. But the courage I'm talking about is the ability to reclaim the power we unwittingly give to any number of imaginary fears that keep us safely sheltered within the boundaries of our personal comfort zone.
The insidious problem we unknowingly foster when we give in to fear in order to avoid discomfort is the sense of "relief" we experience; because in reality what we're creating is a type of psychological reward system that is reinforcing avoidance behavior. So each time you choose to give in to a fear, you are literally conditioning yourself to make it even more likely that you will avoid facing that fear in the future. Depressing isn't it?

Some will point to such things as the rush of adrenaline, anger or moral outrage as being the catalysts for courageous actions; but those reactions are most often triggered by circumstances beyond ones control, life-threatening situations in particular. I'm talking here about intentionally becoming more courageous on a day-to-day basis, and that does not require drastic actions at all. In fact, think of courage as a muscle that you can begin exercising and slowly strengthen over time.
Make Discomfort Your Ally
You can begin exercising your courage muscles by making a list of 5 things you've been avoiding. Don't worry about the big fears for now, focus on doing things you've been putting off simply because the thought of doing or facing them made you uncomfortable. Maybe there's a conversation you've been avoiding, or you have a new software program for your computer and you've been putting off learning how to use it. Often the discomfort we feel comes from lack of understanding, so take the time to acquire the knowledge that you need. If you're anything like some people I know, that may be as simple as actually taking the time to read directions.
Whatever actions you choose, take it gradual, and don't worry if you have to repeat one as long as you continue to nudge your boundaries. Learning to redefine your view of discomfort from a state that needs to be avoided at all cost, to a side effect of personal growth takes time, but by following this gradual process, you'll accomplish two things. You'll stop reinforcing avoidance behavior, and you'll condition yourself to act more courageously in future situations. As you gradually build your courage by facing bigger and bigger discomforts over time, your feelings of fear will diminish accordingly.
The exact strategies you use to strengthen your courage aren't important. What is important is that you do it intentionally and consistently. Just as your muscles weaken when you don't regularly stress them, your courage weakens if you don't consistently challenge yourself to move beyond that place of safety and comfort and face down your fears. Starting today why not challenge yourself to celebrate each encounter with fear as an opportunity for growth and to strengthen your courage muscles.

Surrounding yourself with positive people who sincerely wish the best for you can do wonders to increase your self-esteem. Feelings of hope and love are magnetic and before you know it they'll lift your spirit and create a mood that can also bring comfort to another. Pause for a moment to identify who these people are in your life. Some of us have many, while others may have just one but often that's all it takes to remind you of how great you are. Sometimes the most influential person in our lives is no longer with us, however remembering their warm words and radiating their encouraging energy not only makes us feel better but also allows us to honor and give thanks for the positive light that they gave to us.
What are tips for expanding my support group?
Look for local meet ups or activities where you can meet others who share your positive attitude. Have you recently overcome a life challenge or discovered a new passion? Chances are you aren't the only one. Join a group for empowering women, entrepreneurs, new moms, hiking, cooking, music -whatever moves you. Through sharing your experiences you can inspire another, as well as benefit from someone else's insight.
How can I remain positive around negative people?
It's always a good idea to try and minimize your interaction with negative people. If someone engages you in negative conversation politely respond in a positive manner and end the conversation. When a person recognizes that you will not feed into their negative energy, more often than not, they leave you alone. By holding your ground and staying true to your positive self, you can inadvertently cause the listener to thoughtfully reassess how they view the world.
Finding peace in the present.
Take time each day simply to "be" in the moment. In centering yourself you will gain the positive energy you need to approach life with a fresh mind. Still your mind from what you have to do tomorrow or the anxiety of what you didn't do yesterday. One of the easiest ways to do this is to sit still, close your eyes and focus on the sound of your breathing. Listen to the air as you inhale and feel the oxygen filling your lungs. Then as you slowly exhale hear the air as it slowly exits your being. By focusing on the present, you can minimize the negative energy that results from worrying about the future or the past.

You Are Amazing

Every day I work with amazing people like you, who have beliefs about themselves, which are acting as an obstacle in their lives, or a form of stress, keeping them from their goals or manically motivating them. Many people accept that this is the reality of life, that we ALL have our little insecurities, and any way, if we didn't we would be arrogant, and no one wants to be arrogant, do they?
There seems to be no middle ground between having insecurities that stop us from being the best we can be, and being arrogant, so here's my conclusion. The fear of arrogance is just another reason... alongside I don't have the money, I don't have the time, I'm not good enough, I'm too tired, too busy... you get the drift! Removing limiting beliefs and negative emotions that go round and round our head, and impact our natural behaviour and the results we get, only allows you to be the very best you. Being afraid of change is normal, but look at what you will get when those changes happen? What will it allow you to do, who will you decide to be? Arrogant??
I considered myself shy up until very recently, and that belief certainly impacted on what I got out of life. I was constantly trying to prove myself, to myself! Everyone called me brave for driving around Australia in a camper-van, they saw me living the dream as I set up home in New Zealand, and started up in my dream career whilst painting as a hobby in my house over looking the lake - but internally life wasn't like that. I was still looking for something, still comparing to others, still having negative thoughts and insecurities. And then I had my own personal breakthrough... I gave up smoking without thought, took up running with ease, was approached by a publisher to write a book. My mind was clear and things just seemed to happen when I needed them to.
In training, I had to create a picture to know that I was good enough, and for some reason me on a surf board popped into my mind. Now, I am not a strong swimmer, so have always admired surfers, but saw it more as a metaphor, you know, riding the waves of life and all that, I had no intention to surf! 3 months later I found myself standing up on a surfboard, riding an actual wave, and although I caught that wave because I had friends behind me, pushing me to catch that wave, I stood up and kept my balance - now that's a metaphor!
I tell you these things, not to show off, or be arrogant, but to share with you my story in a hope to inspire you to be the very best you. It is possible to be amazing without being arrogant, and it is possible to live life without crappy internal thoughts and feelings constantly keeping us in a place of 'not bad', and in case you were wondering, you are so much more than good enough.

How to Make Quality Decisions

Making quality decisions is a cornerstone for living a quality life. Of course, we all know that. But knowing and doing are two different things. I know I shouldn't have dessert tonight, but... And I know I should exercise every day, but... And I know I should save that money instead of going out for dinner, but...
Those are all relatively simple decisions, but they are ones we struggle with every day because we really haven't made a quality decision to give up sugar, get healthy, or save toward retirement. Quality decisions require corresponding action. Without follow-through, your 'decision' is just wishful thinking.
Studies show that we make at least 70 decisions every day. That's more than one every fifteen minutes. If you struggle with deciding what to have for breakfast or where to go for dinner (a big issue in our house), how much more are you struggling to make good life choices?
Of course, a lot of those 'decisions' operate on auto-pilot. We do today what we did yesterday, order the same food in restaurants (yes, it's still a decision), or ignore health issues because we don't want to call the doctor or (heaven forbid!) take pills.
Every decision you make however, from your breakfast menu to retirement planning, your career or where you will live, impacts the rest of your decisions. They stack, one upon another, to create the life you now have... and the life you will have next month, next year, next decade.
Here's something to think about. Do you like your life right now? Do you usually feel peace and contentment, optimism and a sense of control? If you don't, it's because of the decisions you made yesterday, last week, or even months and years ago.
Here's the good news. You can change your decisions! If you're reading this, you still have choices. So how do you improve your decision-making skills and follow through? I'm glad you asked.
Get wisdom. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom (Prov. 4:7)There are two levels of wisdom, spirit-guided and human reasoning. Jesus told His disciples to ask and they would receive. James 1:5 says if you lack wisdom, ask God... and it will be given to you. Remember Solomon? When he was about to be made king of Israel, God asked him, "What shall I give you?" Solomon asked for wisdom and knowledge. God replied, "Because this was in your heart... wisdom and knowledge are granted unto you. And I will give you riches, and wealth, and honor... (2 Chron. 1:11-12). Wisdom is a wealth builder, the first step in a quality life. Take the time to pray and ask for God's wisdom and direction.
Seek peace. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts... (Col. 3:15) The Amplified Bible says that peace should "act as umpire continually". Are you peaceful with the decision you are about to make? Quality decisions are usually not made under pressure. They take time and thought. The Bible tells us to seek peace and pursue it (Ps. 34:14). Peace doesn't mean the decision or the action required will be easy. You may not even know how to proceed. But, if you're not peaceful, it's not God. He can give you a sense of peace even if you don't have all the answers yet. Until you find a place of peace, the best 'decision' is to wait.
Fear not. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear... (Ps. 118:6). "Will not" is a choice, a decision. You can let fear, doubt, dread, trepidation, turmoil and uncertainty run your life... or you can choose to "be strong, fear not" (Is. 35:4). Jesus told Jairus (who had just been told that his daughter died), "Fear not, believe only." Fear is the enemy of wisdom and peace. It leaches your faith and determination. Fear and its emotional partners are tricks of the devil to keep you chained to your past circumstances. If you are going to make a quality decision and move forward, you will have to fight off those mental attacks.
Be patient. Let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (James 1:4) Patience has two roles to play in good decision-making. First, don't move too quickly on important decisions. A little time of waiting is always wise. Use patience to test your decision. Does it still feel peaceful? Do you have a sense of calmness and wisdom in your choice? You've heard that it's always best to postpone major purchases (or even minor ones!) for at least 24 hours. That is just as true with other decisions. Impulse buying or decision-making can prove to be unwise. Be patient and contemplate your options before moving forward.
The second component of patience comes after the decision. Once you've made a choice, there is often a time of testing. The universe - and the devil - want to know if you're serious. Have you noticed that when you decide to give up sweets, your spouse wants to stop for ice cream, your co-workers bring donuts, and the cookie isle in the grocery store calls your name! Stay strong. Stand your ground. God will work out the details if you will be patient and trust Him.
Consider the future. This one doesn't really belong in a spirit-based list for quality decisions. After all, Jesus said, "Take no thought for the morrow... " (Matt. 6:34). He was trying to demonstrate to the crowd that God always has a plan and He always takes care of His kids (you and me). However, it's also important for us to consider the impact of today's actions (aka decisions). If you spend every penny you make and more, where will you be financially in six months or a year? If you eat everything you see, how healthy will you be? How will that impact your lifestyle in the future?
God expects you to trust Him with your tomorrow, but He also expects you to make wise decisions today. Every choice has a consequence. Every cause has an effect. The Bible says seed time and harvest shall not cease (Gen. 8:22). That means whatever you decide today will trigger a harvest. It may take some time and effort, particularly if your decision doesn't flow with the world's way of thinking, but you will receive the results of what you sow
Whatever you want is available to you if you will make decisions consistent with your dreams and goals.
Consider that when you make your choices and you will be more apt to make quality decisions. And quality decisions are the key to a quality life.

What Happens When You Fail To Achieve Your Goals?

What happens when you fail to achieve your goals? It could be that:
  • You start avoiding setting big goals because you don't want to fail. You start talking of being practical and the need to set achievable goals.

  • You get upset and demotivated. You start losing faith in yourself. You start feeling that you are a failure.

  • You switch over to "why" mode and analyze what went wrong? What could have been done to avoid failure? What changes you must make in your planning or action process, so that your goals remain meaningful and challenging AND you really achieve them!
Which of the above options do you choose? Of course, there is nothing wrong in failing. It happens with everyone some time or the other; but you cannot start on this premise. If you start with this thinking, that amounts to "planning to fail".
So the focus has to remain to succeed - success with a feeling of achievement, success that is not an ordinary one! Therefore, if you understand your weaknesses, there can always be some concrete plan to pull you forward.
Big targets are always going to be scary. It is natural to feel uneasy and apprehensive about them. They certainly go beyond the obvious or what you can achieve with what you already know and do. Big stretch targets force you to think out of the box. Obviously, extraordinary results cannot be achieved with ordinary actions.
It goes without saying that you have to move outside of your comfort zone while chasing big targets. So, in fact, it is the fear of unknown over there that scares you!
For some people, the failure of falling short of a big target means embarrassment, frustration, loss of face, loss of respect, disappointment and reinforcement of an already low self-esteem. Big enough reasons to avoid those big targets - big enough reasons to look for "achievable targets" and to justify why targets should be "achievable".
However, safe and achievable targets don't stretch you and as such, you end up achieving much less than what you can! You don't feel the need to think smarter, or choose more wisely or act more deliberately. Taking the easy route, you neither explore new approaches nor look beyond your current knowledge. Definitely not enough to have that adventurous feeling of fulfillment!
It is also true however, that unrealistically high targets without backing of real action plans can never motivate you to perform. Striking a fine balance between the stark reality of the present and aligning your thoughts, choices and actions towards a BIG destination in the future, is the key.
Get motivation from the distance you have traveled to inspire yourself to bridge the gap you have fallen short of. Motivation to achieve and will to succeed are the prerequisites in this journey. The real success will come through creative thinking, meticulous planning and real hard work. So think BIG, plan BIG, achieve BIG for BIGGER happiness and supreme feeling of satisfaction.

Accept Acceptance As A Way Of Life

One of the hardest things most people encounter is to simply accept things the way they are, whether that has to do with your own personal life or any other event or person in the wide world.

Important, too, is your acceptance of yourself as you are right now. It does not mean that you cannot think about improving if that is your desire. It means consenting to yourself, affirming yourself just as you are. You have no other in this moment and to be non-accepting of that self in this moment is to waste time, energy and emotional self-support.
Why do that to yourself?
Let's look at it from this angle. Strip away all religious concepts from your thinking at the moment. Cast aside all societal and peer pressures. Just look at yourself as objectively as you can.
Now imagine that The Source of All There Is is regarding you as well. What does the Source think of you? When all conventional pressures are removed you know that you are accepted just as you are. No matter your condition or status as compared with any stricture outside entities may want to place upon you. In the sight of the Source you are accepted just as you are.
Why? Because you are part of the Source just as It is. Therefore, because the Source is all accepting, you are accepted. When you know yourself to be accepted by the Source just as you are, how can you not accept yourself? You must.
Let's move on to events and people in the world around you. Do you have any real or direct control over anyone or anything else? No. Absolutely not. Then the best course of action or thought is simply to accept things and people the way they are.
Once again, it doesn't mean that things and the life-situations of people cannot be improved. Perhaps they ought to be amended. But that does not need to put any pressure on you to change them. Change them if you want to, not because you have to.
Again, when you accept things the way they are, you allow yourself some emotional comfort. Emotional comfort is perfectly all right. When you are in discomfort you may be come irritable. When irritated you are in discomfort, obviously. When in discomfort you do not function optimally. Practically, then, you may get less done and change things less.
In others words, accept things the way they are and you will have a better chance of changing them. Acceptance is not weakness, it is a stance of strength. Accept acceptance as a way of life for yourself. You will be the better for it. Begin now.

Ladies, Are You Ready To Stand And Take Your Life Back?

What You Think Is Not A True Reflection Of Who You Are
Thesis Statement: Satan has rendered women powerless by creating within us a dissatisfaction with our bodies and who we were created to be. This dissatisfaction with how we look and see ourselves permeates every area of our lives, and is producing discouraged, fear filled, and insecure women. By changing the way we perceive ourselves, we can dislodge the heel of Satan's foot from our necks, stand, and gain our life back.
To Live A Life Of Power And Abundance
I have been wrestling with what God is calling me to do for awhile now. What is it that women need in order to fulfill their God ordained calling? The things that He has prepared in advanced for them to do? He has given me a passion to see women soar like eagles, to be courageous as a lioness, and to become all God has designed them to be. That passion burns within me, and brings me to tears every time I think about you and your dreams. The question that kept me up at nights is this: what exactly keeping you from taking the steps needed to make your dreams a reality. The dreams that God has placed in your heart. God wants those dreams to become a reality more than you do, because those dreams are your "works" God prepared in advanced for you to do!
The thesis statement above is what I believe God has laid on my heart; he is asking me to speak truth into your heart about this particular issue, and He promises that I will see your "dead bones" rise to life. How many of you want to live a life of strength, promise, power, and potential? Do you want to dislodge the heel of Satan, Stand, and gain your life back? An abundant life can be yours! How? Change the way you think! The first thoughts you need to take "captive" are the lies that your entertaining about how you see yourself. Lies that keep your self esteem, self worth, and self confidence in the gutter! Stop it NOW!
The Past Does Not Indicate Your Future
You may be asking, how? All I have is my journey and what God has done in my life. Believe me, I spent most of my life in the gutter of self condemnation! Satan had me by the neck with an eating disorder for over 10 years, and if that wasn't enough caught me in another addiction of alcohol. The pain of trying to destroying myself with starvation needed a salve, and I used alcohol to mask the pain. Guess what? This made things even worse, and I would lay in bed at night asking God to just make the pain go away and take me home. I did not want to live anymore! He obviously said NO to this prayer in order to bring me tremendous joy, and to bring you freedom!
He is turning the pain of my past into something good! Just like He promises in Romans 8:28 (and we tend to doubt His promises). He totally delivered me from my eating disorder, He has shown me how special and precious I am to Him, and He has revealed to me my talents, gifts, and purpose. He wants to do all of this and more in your life too!
Don't Fall For his Dirty Tricks
There are may different ways Satan feeds our dissatisfaction, it does not always manifest itself in disordered eating, however, with the billions spend on diet "plans" I would say it is one of his most effective tools. He also uses shopping, romance, busyness, career success, etc all to feed the dissatisfaction with who we are. These things can never fill the void in our lives because it will never be enough. No matter how thin we get, how much stuff we have, how much others love and appreciate us, or how successful we become, we will always want more. Look at Eve, she had everything. EVERYTHING! Yet Satan slithered up to her and offered her the one thing that she wasn't suppose to have. She looked at that fruit and saw that it was desirable, BUT God did not desire for her to taste it, to experience it.
There are things in this life that we can look at, admire, and appreciate but we are never to experience. I will NEVER have an hourglass figure! I can workout and diet for the rest of my life, and it will never produce the desired results that I want to achieve. I could also work at trying to be someone that people gathered around because of her outgoing personality. I am not outgoing, spontaneous, or energetic! It's humorous and exhausting trying to picture myself in this role. God has created me with a very straight figure, a personality that is more on the serious side, and gifts and talents that are unique to me and my calling.
You Were Created For More
How has God created you? Instead of looking in the mirror and wishing someone else was staring back at you, what if you could look at yourself and see you are wonderfully made, have unique experiences, talents, and gifts, and believe that God wants to use all of YOU! Here is what I'm asking you to do, Stop Hiding! Let yourself come out, and allow God to help you fulfill your calling. That sound great and all Torrie, but how do I do that? Start doing things you enjoy. What brings you joy? Grab some paper and start writing down the things that YOU want to do. Don' think about all the reason why you could never do those things, just start writing and them pick one and go do it. You have just been given a $100 therapy tip!
For me, God used fashion to help me appreciate the body I have instead of constantly wanting something that I would never have. By putting on an outfit that I looked and felt great in, changed my perception of who I was. I was able to look past the "flaws" to see that I was not that bad. I could actually look good! In time, he took this slight shift in my thinking to permeate all areas of my life with confidence and purpose. I now live a life of freedom, power, and potential! If I can live a life of abundance, SO CAN YOU!
God has created and enabled me to encourage women to TRUST Him by declaring the Truth of God. I am to live free and to lead others to freedom. He has given me a desire to see women become all God has created them to be and to live on purpose. He has given me wisdom and discernment to see where they need healing, and encourage them to peal back the layers of their lives to emerge as they really are, uniquely created and loved by the Creator.

Knowing Your True Self

Each one of us is a unique person. We have different bodies and different talents, but your self is uniquely you.
Yet your self is not a thing that can be seen or touched in the outer world. It is not a fixed state that does not change. It is the dimension through which you experience your life. It is an evolving process that grows throughout your life. It transcends the composition of your physical body (which turns over its physical ingredients regularly). It is a pattern that transcends its parts, just as your face can be recognized as a pattern that transcends your eyes, nose, and mouth, and just as a melody can be recognized as a pattern that transcends musical notes. However, because it is multifaceted, you experience your self through its parts rather than as a whole. For this reason you cannot experience all aspects of your self simultaneously. Still your emotional comfort and psychological integrity depend upon your awareness that you have a whole self.
The easiest way to envision the pattern of your self is to build up a mental picture of it by describing its parts: your me, your myself, and your I. The personal pronouns me, myself, and I are very special words indeed. They have no synonyms.
The terms me, myself, and I refer to demonstrably separate parts of your self. Simply put, your me is your person, your myself is your mind, and your I is your self-awareness.
Your Me (Your Person)
Your me is your physical presence, your skills, and your personality that distinguish you as a particular person. It casts your external image in the perceptions of other people and of yourself through your visible appearance and actions. It is the only part of your self that you can see in a mirror. Your me relates you to the outer world.
Your me is reflected in your conscious awareness by your sensual perceptions of the outer world, of your emotions, of your bodily sensations, of your instinctual drives, and of your body image. Your me contains your cravings for physical gratification, security, and power. As such, the inclinations of your me are to use other people to satisfy your own needs and to fight or flee when your own needs are threatened. Your me contains your "false selves" that you have learned as accommodations to the expectations of others. A false self will be defined later.
Although your me aims to ensure your survival as an individual, your me cannot be de-pended upon for satisfaction with your life. In addition it can create problems for you by demanding unattainable security, by becoming obsessed and bored with material possessions, by competing with others for power and control, and by urging impulsive actions.
Your Myself (Your Mind)
Your myself is your mind. Your myself consists of mental imagery of your outer and inner worlds. It is composed of your conscious and unconscious thoughts, your imagination, your dreams, your knowledge, and your conscience. It includes your beliefs, your values, your self-concepts, your evaluations of your own personal qualities, and your judgments of others.
Your True Self
The core of your being lies a powerful, loving, creative nature - your true self.
You are born with your true self. It contains your genetic potential. It is the source of your creativity, the perceiver of your sensuous perceptions, and the site of your spirit. It is the source of your capacity for unconditional love; of your capacity for integrity; of your capacities for truth, beauty, and justice; of your capacity to experience moral guilt; and of your capacity for self-esteem. Your true self is remarkable indeed!
Knowing your true self depends upon making what may still seem to be a fine distinction between the terms sensuous and sensual. Yet that distinction is crucial to understanding the sensations that you can use to become acquainted with your true self. This is because your access to your true self is through your sensuousness.
In order to fully understand the difference between sensuous and sensual, you may well need to go against the way in which you have been conditioned to think.
Unfortunately, our society does not help you become aware of your sensuousness. One of the basic problems in our society today is the failure to distinguish between sensual and sensuous experiences. This is most clearly seen in confusion about the meaning of the word love. Is love a sensual (physical) or a sensuous (spiritual) experience? It is no coincidence that confusion about whom and how we love actually reflects confusion within our own selves because we do not know how to distinguish between our sensual and sensuous experiences.
Discovering and developing the sensuous experiencing of your true self is not easy in our contemporary society, which does not encourage the appreciation of natural rhythms, pleasures, and discomforts. We are preoccupied with the sensual stimulation and discomfort relief provided by commercially produced machines, by machine-made items, and by events of the outer world. As a result we have come to believe that the products we purchase are superior to the sensuous experiences that occur naturally in our inner worlds. We find ourselves spending money, sometimes lavishly, in the quest of satisfactions that money cannot buy. We find ourselves turning to the stimulation of movies, television, and computers for excitement and pleasure rather than drawing upon our own creativity.
Our society fosters satisfying immediate sensual pleasures rather than savoring sensuous satisfactions. Both political and commercial purposes can be served by gratifying our sensual urges. Appealing to pleasures, fears, and pains is a sure way to manipulate people to serve one's purposes and to buy one's products. We are bombarded with continual sensual stimulation by events in our outer worlds. We find it difficult to reflect peacefully in our inner worlds. Consequently, we be-come bored easily and seek the continual stimulation of work, recreation, and chemical agents. Some of us compulsively indulge our sensual urges in mechanical ways, as in excessive eating, smoking, drinking, and sexuality. We become conditioned to seeking sensual gratification. And that is good for business.
Because of the sensual orientation of our society, you may well be unaware of the vital distinction between the intangible experience of sensuousness as beauty by your I and the tangible experience of sensuality as the bodily gratification of your me. But you can become aware of the differences. When you are under the sway of your sensuality, your life revolves around the appearance of your me in the eyes of others and around maintaining a desired public image. When you are in tune with your sensuousness, you are responsive to the inner world experiences of your I, and your life revolves around your spirituality. Your capacity for sensuality favors a materialistic orientation to life, whereas your capacity for sensuousness makes it possible for you to develop a spiritual orientation to life.
You may not realize it, but one time that you sensuously experience your inner world is when your creativity holds sway, as when you use a tool in an art or craft. The satisfaction you experience from a creative thought or act is sensuous. While tools extend your creative use of your hands and senses, machines can either replace or enhance your creativity. For example, computers can do tasks for you as machines, but they also can extend your creativity as tools.
This brings us to your true self. The psychologist Abraham Maslow described the true self as the source of sensuous, aesthetic experiences in the form of truth, beauty, justice, coherence, simplicity, and creativity. Contact with your true self takes place through subtle feelings, such as inner peace, inspiration, self-confidence, integrity, and effortless activity. Expressing your true self takes place through the unconditional loving of others and through harmonizing conflict and diversity. In the quiet center of your true self you also can discover the truths that lie in the fundamental paradoxes of life.
More specifically, the two sensuous experiences of moral guilt and self-esteem are vital clues to expressing your true self. You and I have the innate capacity to experience authentic guilt when we are not fulfilling or are betraying our potential. That twinge of guilt, although uncomfortable, can be a growth-producing clue that you and I are not fulfilling the potential of our true selves. Moral guilt, more than social guilt that arises from our consciences in our myselves, can be a wholesome, monitoring influence in our lives. It can help us to improve our lives.
Just as there is a crucial difference between sensuous and sensual, there is an important difference between what we should do and what we ought to do. Doing what we should do con-notes doing the proper thing with respect to other people. The voice of your conscience tells you what you should or should not do, revealing its origin outside of you in the expectations of others. Right and wrong are determined by values you learn from other people. Your conscience gives rise to social guilt. For example, you feel guilty when you do not do what you are supposed to do, such as attend a particular religious service. Because social guilt is not authentically our own, we tend to have ambivalent feelings about responding to it. It can mire us in pointless self-recrimination and depression when we feel we are imperfect in the eyes of others and therefore in our own eyes. That kind of social guilt can be stultifying and inhibit spiritual growth.
In contrast, doing what we ought to do connotes moral obligation. Moral guilt reminds us of the things we ought or ought not to do. Moral guilt reminds us that we are imperfect and can do better. It stimulates growth in our spiritual journeys.
The feeling of self-esteem also is a cue that you are in contact with your true self. Self-esteem results when you value yourself, when you nurture your talents, and when you accept your imperfections. You experience self-esteem when you appreciate your own worth and when you accept accountability for your own shortcomings.
Our true selves are the parts of our selves that contain our innate talents. They are the sources of our creativity. Although we will never fully know our true selves, they are exciting realms of continual discovery throughout our lives. Therein lie both our challenges and our fulfillment in life.
False Selves
Just as ancient Greek actors wore masks (personas) while performing, we wear the masks of our false selves in order to maintain the outer world images we have learned to show in our various social roles. An obvious example is when we act differently in our work places than we do with members of our families in our homes. Our personalities include these necessary false selves first learned in our childhood roles, so that we do and say the appropriate things expected of us in particular social situations. The parts of our selves that show to other people are our false selves.
Each of our false selves is expressed by behaving so as to maintain a particular image in the eyes of others. Our false selves are necessary social adaptations, because we all have reasonable expectations of each other. Certainly shopping goes better when store clerks act courteously even though they are tired and eager to go home. We are well advised to observe false self etiquette in social situations.
The term false self is an appropriate description of one of our external faces, because it is in accord with the fact that you and I are imperfect human beings engaged in a lifelong struggle to discover and to express our true selves while living in an outer world that necessitates social accommodations. The term false self also helps to explain why you and I do feel false at times and why some of us are actually known as "phonies." Your challenge and mine in life is to imbue our false selves with as much of our true selves as is possible.
That challenge is becoming increasingly imposing. The technological advances and changing lifestyles of the last century now expose us to many new social roles. One of the effects of this social overstimulation has been the generation of new roles for ever-expanding audiences, such as father, stepfather, son, stepson, brother, husband, ex-husband, student, teacher, friend, athlete, team-mate, patient, client, customer, seller, employee, boss, taxpayer, voter, expert, critic, performer, patron, parishioner, driver, passenger, contributor, writer, reader, victim, perpetrator, foster parent, foster child, adoptive parent, adoptive child, and so on. As you can see, each one of these roles brings out a different aspect of your self.
Do the many roles you play contribute to stress in your life? Isn't it likely that this is true if the motivation to play a role comes from the outer world rather than from your inner world?
Our false selves are based on our own and others' perceptions and are defined by what we and others can see, hear, and touch. They are superimposed on our sensuous true selves. A particular false self usually arises in compliance with the expectations we imagine others have of us. However, it can be expressed in opposition to the expectations of others, as does a rebellious teenager. It can be a reaction to distortions of how other people perceive you, as does a shy person. Or it can conceal unacceptable parts of your self, as does a pious person. A false self also is subject to lapses when "others are not looking."
A false self lacks full authenticity because it is primarily determined by our social obligations and by our psychological defense mechanisms rather than by our true selves. It tends either to assume the characteristics of the person upon whose expectations it is based or to assume the opposite. Therefore, we are likely to have ambivalent feelings about a false self. It may be overly compliant with others' expectations, or it may differ too much from others' expectations. This explains why we can have conflicting feelings about the ways in which we play our roles in our vocations and in our family relationships. We may even be confused about what others expect of us because others can be unclear about what they expect of us as well.
Our false selves can confuse and destroy relationships when they are not grounded in, and monitored by, our true selves. When our false selves are out of touch with our true selves, we are like a machine playing out recordings prescribed by what others expect of us at particular stages in our lives. Our false selves can become rigid and fail to adapt to our changing social roles. We then are threatened by change and may well cling to dogmatic beliefs and to the conviction that only we are right.

Build Self-Esteem by Discovering and Celebrating Hidden Talents

Projects we enjoy doing at the office or hobbies we carve out time for during the weekends are good indicators of our talents - natural or learned. These are the activities that help us feel good about ourselves. When we experience the results of using our talents in these areas, we begin to recognize and believe more deeply in our abilities. If you want to boost your self-esteem, follow these four simple steps for discovering and using your talents.
1. Identify current interests. Make a mental note of the activities you currently enjoy and why. Ask yourself what it is specifically about these activities that inspires and satisfies you. Assess your interest and your skill. The things you already like to do are probably things you are also good at doing. Keep doing those things and if needed, find a way to do them more often.
2. Ask others about their interests. Talk to friends, family members, and colleagues about how they discovered their passion and what they did to sharpen their skills. Perhaps you'll find that you have similar interests; if so, you can pursue those interests together. Or, temporarily borrow their interests; try their passions on for size and see how you feel about them. You might feel a little out of your comfort zone, but it may be a worthwhile experience in identifying new and exciting talents of your own. If you decide you don't like something once you've tried it, you will still have gained some great insight into yourself.
3. Research interests online. The Internet is a great way to explore new ideas and opportunities without investing significant time or money in the experience. Explore various online courses to see if anything peaks your curiosity. Check out interest groups, forums, and chat rooms and search for conversations that appeal to you. Identify why the conversation appeals to you and assess if you have the skills needed to participate. If not, take a class and learn how. If so, dive right in.
4. Take community classes. Community classes are an excellent way to discover talents and passions. Most classes are usually local and easily accessible. Many classes are affordable and require little additional knowledge or training. Some classes are offered frequently during the year so you can attend one at your convenience. Once you've chosen a class to attend, you'll get a good idea about the subject over the span of the course. At the end, you can decide whether or not it's right for you. If not, you can move on and try a different course until you find an interest and corresponding hidden talents that meshes well with your needs and desires.
Whatever you do, don't give up. The goal is to build self-esteem by identifying hidden talents. Make an investment in yourself by uncovering your own hidden talents and nurture those talents to your heart's content. Doing so will lead to deep fulfillment and personal satisfaction. And, you might even have some fun in the process.

Overcoming Your Own Insecurity

Do you ever feel insecure? Maybe you feel like you're not "good enough." Insecurity in the workplace can destroy a successful career before it even begins. Low self-esteem and lack of confidence, can cause insecurities to surface when confronted with certain situations or tasks. This affects how you develop workplace relationships, take criticism and deal with challenging situations. This is especially true in small businesses. Finding your confidence can keep your business on track.
Confidence is your number one asset. In life and business, confidence allows you to share your message, product or service with the world and take it to the top. After all, if you don't believe in yourself who else will?However, there is something that happens when you hold your message up to the worlds skeptical eye... sometimes that world doesn't like you. In a world of over 6 billion people, chances are there are a whole bunch of people that won't like you. But that should not affect you or your career. You are an individual with a unique idea ort service to offer. Own it.
I am going to share with you a little story about and finding my own sense of self and confidence, that has since carried over into all aspects of my life and business.
In grade school, I was always the enthusiastic smart girl that "geeked out" on learning. I loved impressing classmates and teachers with my over the top projects and knowledge. Then high school came around, and along with it a whole set of insecurities. I still worked really hard to keep my grades up, but the idea of answering questions or speaking out in class terrified me. The back of the classroom was my refuge. The further, I sat from the front the safer I felt. It wasn't because I didn't know the answer, 9 times out of 10 I probably did. But WHAT IF I answered a question wrong? WHAT IF I looked stupid in front of my peers?
Insecurity can be a person's biggest downfall. Insecurity breeds more insecurity. When we act out of insecurity, our actions increase our fears.
With my cloak of invisibility, I would sit in the back and hope and pray to not get called on. Looking back, this really just made it worse. The anxiety that ensued left me more unprepared when the inevitable happened. At some point I would get called on... I just didn't know when, during what lesson or if I would know the answer.
Out of insecurity I gave up control of the situation, and when I did my insecurities multiplied.
I remember the day that all changed. All the seats in the back were taken. I was forced to sit in the front, but you know what? It wasn't so bad. For the first time, I began to realize my potential and owned it. I was an intelligent woman with a lot of information and valuable feedback to offer others. Suddenly sitting in the front, with like minded people was appealing. People around me in class pushed me to be better, and I didn't feel as alone and nervous as I did in the back of the class.
Nothing had changed. I was the same person I had always been, but moving to the front was the beginning of a brand new me. I was confident and in control.
We have all come along way since our high school years, but that doesn't change the fact that we all have a little bit of insecurity. Think about the last time you felt insecure, maybe it was about making a phone call, giving a presentation, confronting an employee, or dealing with an unsatisfied customer. Don't stand back. You are going to get "called on" anyway. Do it on your terms.
It is really not so bad.

Inner Voice: Why Do Some People Find It Hard To Listen To Their Inner Voice?

There is something called an inner voice and this is available to each one of us. But although this is the case, it doesn't mean that one is in tune with their inner voice or even knows that they have one.
The Inner voice is not the only term that is used to describe this powerful guidance system. For some people it will be called intuition or some kind of psychic ability. One will have hunches, sense things or just feel or know that something is right or wrong. And as there are many ways of perceiving the world, this all makes sense.
The Noise
However, in the modern day world there is so much noise and this can make it extremely difficult to listen to this voice. And there are numerous sources that can inhibit one from doing so.
To be reliant on external figures for guidance and information has generally become the norm. People are rarely encouraged to come to their own views and insights. These different sources begin from the moment one is born and carry on until the moment one passes.
Childhood
During this time one is dependent and therefore has to rely on the guidance of their caregivers and other people. This is to be expected and it not a problem per se. What can lead to challenges is when one is brought up by caregivers who are overbearing, controlling or abusive in some way.
In these cases a child is going to be discouraged from listening to themselves. And this can cause one to lose touch with their inner world and what is true for them.
If one hasn't lost touch with it, then they may come to doubt what they know is right and all because it has been denied for so long. And if the people who one trusted and depended upon invalidated this inner wisdom, it is not much of a surprise.
Education
Next up is typically the education system and in a lot of cases this is nothing more that glorified regurgitation. Of course one needs to learn how to read and write for instance; this cannot be emphasised enough.
And yet, to think critically or to question things is not something that is part of most curriculums. People are generally taught that the answers are found in books or through an authority figure. So the answers that each person has within them and their own truth, is overlooked and covered up.
This is often described as educating the mind, but forgetting the heart. The intellect becomes highly evolved and the softer or lighter side of someone is neglected. So this inevitably leads to an imbalance being created. One is supported in their search for answers in the external world and abandoned in their search for answers within.
Society
Another powerful influence is society and this has been there since the moment one was born in one form or another. The media for example has a massive impact on how one sees the world and themselves.
And what is presented in the media is generally portrayed as being the truth and that's the end of it. So this can create a dependence on external sources and not support one in coming to their own sense about it all.
Self Development
One can become cut off from themselves through self development, as ironic as this may sound. It is clear that one may need to be assisted at times and that other people can be a catalyst or mirror for one's personal evolution.
But, this process can end up being sabotaged through one getting caught up in what other people suggest they should or shouldn't do. One can become dependent on other peoples knowledge, as opposed to listening to their inner voice. The inner will need to be balanced with the outer.
Cut Off
Due to there being so many influences out there that are trying to stop one from listening to what is being communicated to them within, feeling cut off can be normal. If one has not been encouraged from the day they were born and right until they are an adult, how would someone have this connection.
Control
By stepping back from this and looking at it from another viewpoint, it becomes clear that there is a lot of control going on. People are not being supported in their pursuit of the truth; they are being told what is true and what is not.
And it would be easy to blame the ego and say that the ego needs to be dissolved or something similar. But this perspective often comes from a lack of understanding. The ego is there to keep one alive and to allow them to have their own personal experience of life.
Control is something we all need, but this healthy need can end up going to the extreme. To feel that one has no control is disempowering and to be overly controlling is going to disempower others.
And whether one feels that they have no control or that they need to control others, it is coming from the same cause. This person is probably carrying trapped feelings and emotions that are disabling them from feeling a healthy sense of control. The ego is not to blame; it is more a case of one needing to heal what is going on within them.
A New Way
So if healing was part of life and something people were encouraged to engage in, then the need to control others would not be as strong. And then people's personal space would be respected and this would support people to look within.
Letting Go
If one has become cut off from this inner voice it is unlikely to be something that one gets back in touch with overnight. What can stop one making this connection is what they have picked up over the years. This can be feelings and emotions that that have become trapped in the body
If one has a strong sense of who they are and is empowered, it will be easier to not only listen to this voice, but to act on it. Because if one is not empowered, there will be the tendency to look outside for approval and acceptance and this means that one will ignore their inner guidance.
This process of letting go and realizing ones personal power can be assisted by a therapist or healer who will allow one to let go. Or one can do this through some kind of self inquiry.
